eianbro That is correct, but if you use a DC input, about 2 volts will be lost in the rectifier at the input, as the current has to pass through two of the four diodes.

eianbro Although no circuit is shown, kit contains 4 diodes (D1-D4) which are used as bridge rectifier. Low voltage AC or DC input can be used, NOT mains voltage. If DC supply used there will be about 1.5v lost as the current passes through two diodes of the bridge rectifier.
