With the BSIDE O1, the electronics hobbyist gets a very useful and reliable measuring instrument for measurements in almost all circuits he or she encounters. Although the oscilloscope only has basic functions, this is good enough for most measurements in the hobby range. What stands out is the measured bandwidth of 8 MHz and the excellent way a sine wave at that frequency still appears on the screen. The main criticism we have of this meter is the very poor contrast on the oscilloscope's screen. By choosing a lighter colour (yellow or light blue) in the software to display the oscillograms, this drawback can be overcome. A second inconvenience is that the ‘AUTO’ function sometimes takes a very long time to select the correct settings of sensitivity and time base. If you want to measure several signals in quick succession, this is rather frustrating. A pity is the fact that the manufacturer did not opt for a BNC input for the oscilloscope. That would obviously increase the price somewhat, but would allow the use of a standard oscilloscope measuring probe. The multimeter does what it is supposed to do: measure voltages, currents, resistors and capacitors fairly reliably. However, an additional current range of 100 mA would have been welcome!

The is a very nice kit for teens interested in technology. It is easy to assemble, even without much electronics experience. It works guaranteed! All you need to make sure is that the LDRs and the LEDs are properly aligned. We made a course by sticking black insulating tape on a white table top. It is nice to see how the simple electronics are able to make the car follow this course flawlessly.

The FNIRSI 1014D will undoubtedly not earn praise from professional electronicians. For that, its real bandwidth (30 MHz) is too small and its real rise time (11.5 ns) too large. But if you are looking for a very affordable and easy-to-operate entry-level model, this oscilloscope suffices perfectly. Its strengths obviously do not lie in performing HF measurements or accurately measuring the amplitude of signals. But the average hobbyist doesn't need that either. For most measurement jobs on audio amplifiers, experiments with Arduinos and similar hobby activities, the 1014D can undoubtedly become your indispensable and reliable instrument. The controls are simple and intuitive to operate, the oscillograms are clear. A plus point is definitely the possibility of powering the device from a 5 V power pack. A handy do-it-yourselfer could even install a battery, 5 V stabiliser and charging electronics in the largely empty space in the housing. As far as we are concerned, the 1014D can be unreservedly recommended to hobbyists and schools and for performing most of the common repairs on electronics devices.

The internal looks neat and tidy. On the left you see the mains filter and next to it the rectifier of the mains voltage with two large smoothing capacitors. The electronics are still very traditionally built with axial components on a single-sided PCB with wire bridges. You will search without success for SMD components. Notice that isolation slots are milled into the PCB in many places. The heavier components are fixed with sealant. All in all, this power supply makes a reliable impression. We could not resist performing a few tests on this power supply. Our specimen produced a voltage of 65.263 V without load. Loaded with a current of 5.5 A, the voltage drops to 65.134 V. The voltage drop is thus 129 mV. This corresponds to an output stability of 0.20 %. The figure below compares the hum and noise at no-load (left) and full-load (right). The peak-to-peak value of the noise and ripple at full load is therefore 250 mV.

The sensitivity is excellent. Even with a distance of 3 to 4 mm between your finger and the sensor side of the PCB, the module reacts by switching the output. We have attached a module to various sheet materials and investigated how this affects the sensitivity. Sheets of various types of plastic did not cause any problems. Even with a sheet 3 mm thick, the module reacts without problems when you touch it on the place where the module is located on the other side. This opens up interesting applications, such as making touchable front panels of measuring equipment! Glass is a different story, the module's output is already activated when the module is attached to a glass plate. The same applies to cardboard. We have not investigated how this works when an extra capacitor is soldered on the PCB to reduce sensitivity.

If you google the term 'breakdown voltage meter', you will find that although there is equipment that can measure this voltage, you have to pay hundreds to over a thousand euros for it. If you only occasionally feel the need to measure the breakdown voltage of a component, this small and inexpensive device offers a useful alternative to its much more expensive counterparts. That there is such a large ripple on the output voltage of 600 V may not be as it should be, but that probably has very little impact on measuring the breakdown voltage of a component.

Too bad, very bad that this multimeter fails when measuring small capacitors. You can only reliably measure from 10 nF and up. All other measurement functions meet the specifications excellently. Working with the IR camera, with the logger and with the software is also all excellent, although we would have liked to see the accuracy of the IR sensor a bit better. Our advice to the manufacturer is to include in a future version of the firmware the 'REL' function present in almost every multimeter. That could solve the problems when measuring small capacitors and could also compensate for the parasitic resistance of the test leads when measuring small resistances. Our conclusion is that we find the ET12S an excellent little meter for everyday hobby electronics work. However, do not use it extensively in mains voltage circuits, because we find the input circuitry a bit too fragile to confidently recommend using it in 230 V systems.

Of course we were very curious about the accuracy of such a cheap temperature meter. Well, that is excellent, just look at the graph below. We compared the temperature measured with the TM-902C with the indication of a professional thermocouple meter from Lascar Electronics. We measured between -18 °C and +100 °C. We found the maximum deviation, as the specifications suggest, at temperatures below the freezing point of water. At a temperature of -18.0 °C the reading on the TM-902C was -22.8 °C. That is 0.8 °C more than the specifications indicate. At all other measuring points the observed deviation fell completely within the specifications. Two examples, where the laws of physics do not allow any misunderstanding about the real temperature: - Freezing point distilled water: -0.6 °C - Boiling point distilled water: +99.5 °C Very good!

We are extremely satisfied with this microscope and we can recommend it if you are looking for such a tool. It is an ideal tool to check the soldering of SMD-components on your PCBs and to get the codes on such parts clearly visible. The only thing we miss is the possibility to offer the images directly to a PC via the USB port. If you want to do something with the photos, for example publishing on your blog, you have to remove the card from the microscope and connect it to the USB port of your PC via a card reader.

The five delivered transistors have better specifications than the datasheet of the 2N3055 mentions. In the attached table, the current gains Ic/Ib and the base/emitter voltages Vbe of the five delivered transistors are summarized. According to the specifications, the current gain is 20 to 70. Decision: excellent quality!

We were skeptical when we ordered this meter. After all, what quality can you expect for a price of less than five euros? As our test progressed, however, we became more and more enthusiastic about the Aneng Type 180. For measuring DC voltages, direct currents and resistances, you can not wish a better universal meter. And let this be just the things that you usually measure in practice! For measuring AC voltages, this meter is less suitable because of the rather large inaccuracy and the limited bandwidth.

This wall transmitter contains, see the picture below, amazingly little electronics. What is immediately noticeable is that there is space on the PCB for three print switches, of which only the middle one is present. A handyman can therefore make a three-channel transmitter from this single-channel transmitter with some soldering work. The large transmitting antenna that fills approximately half of the print surface provides a wide range or 25 m. The only chip on the PCB is an eV1527 and when you look up the datasheet of this IC it appears that this chip is internally programmed on one out of a total of 1,048,576 address codes. After transmitting this 20-bit wide address code, the switch transmits four data bits.

The S-150-12 is an excellent 12 Vdc at 12.5 A power supply for a good price. The stability of the output voltage between zero load and 10 A load is excellent, with a variation of only 9 mV. Long-term stability, with a maximum deviation of only 14 mV, is also better than expected. Only the 100 Hz ripple at the output at a current of 10 A is more than specified by the manufacturer (125 mV), but is still very acceptable.

With its dimensions of 57 mm by 34 mm by 11 mm, the DSO188 by Daniu can be called a matchbox oscilloscope. If you think this device is nothing more than a fun but useless toy, you are wrong. You can effectively observe signals up to 100 kHz. Of all the cheaper than fifty euro scoops that we have tested, we are most impressed by this DSO188. Despite the small dimensions, the scope is easy to operate and the oscillogram is easy to interpret. Even with the life of about ninety minutes with one battery charge, you can live well in practice. The only unfortunate thing about this beautiful device is that the DSO188 can not be used to reliably measure the numerical quantities of the input signal. The manufacturer had better omitted this option, because with a measurement function that is 'for reference only' you do not have much in practice.

This five-meter-long light-strip is composed of segments that are exactly 50 mm long and each contain three RGB-LEDs plus three series resistors to feed the whole from 12 Vdc. There is a cut-line between two segments, you can cut the ribbon there so that you can adjust the dimensions of the light tube. This meter gives a very accurate display of the battery voltage, no deviation found. The capacity indication is also accurate: 13.2 V corresponds to 100% capacity. Its own current consumption is only 10 mA. This corresponds to a maximum power consumption of 0.13 W.

Indispensable addition to the 24M 8CH logic analyser These handy and inexpensive test leads are an indispensable addition to working with the logic analyser (ID 1177821). Order such a set in one go! A point of criticism: in the supplied set the wires were not soldered to the test pins, but pressed. That gives bad contacts, so just solder for use!

An excellent panel meter I was more than surprised by the excellent performance of this extremely cheap meter. If you want to measure both the output voltage and the output current of a DC voltage source, this meter is an excellent option. The only improvement we see (and it also saved some money) is replacing the power connector with two solder lugs on the PCB, next to the shunt.

A very useful and accurate multimeter This meter, which costs just over ten euros, meets almost all the requirements for a multimeter in terms of measurement performance. However, you cannot trust the AN302 to measure frequencies. The lack of a current measurement is also a small shortcoming. We are less enthusiastic about the mechanical construction of the device. The way in which the button cell is clamped into the housing is ingeniously conceived, but not very reliable in the long run. The buttons do not work very well and often you have to press twice to activate a function. Nevertheless, our final opinion is very positive. Aneng has succeeded in bringing a very useful and accurate multimeter on the market at a very low price.
