iceblink1 The back of the bulb (the flat side) should be the same side as the back of the circuit board when you bend the 3 wires back like in the photos above. If you do put it in the wrong way round you will smell burning before it is complete destroyed and should disable power immediately. I have one sensor with a dark brown "burnt" bulb but it works just fine, just as well as undamaged ones (I use 3.3v for this detector, and 5v for the laser)

This init does not come with the sensor fitted and there is no indication which way it is supposed to fit, if fitted the wrong way the sensor will burn out as I found out by trial and error, It appears you can;t purchased the senor LDR seperately. I think the little buldge goes up when looking at it as in the picture

Works well at a distance but sometimes at close distance the signal gets a little messed up
