The sonoff basic is a really nice device. The WiFi connectivity is good. Two walls between sonoff and access point and it is still at 70% signal strength. You can upgrade the sonoff with little effort and use three additional GPIOs. Just get yourself the free firmware TASMOTA and solder a pin header and wires, respectively, to the sonoff basic. Have a look at the picture, I drilled a small hole to get out the wires safly, i.e. away from mains power. Example use-case for 3 additional pins: 1. humidity/temperature sensor, e.g. AM23012. PIR sensor to trigger relay, e.g. light bulb, or an additional pin, e.g. small LED.3. LED as a dim light at nightNote that the relay is clearly audible when it's triggered on or off. To sum up, I recommend this device for all who want to switch mains voltage via smartphone or home automation service.
