The board arrived in a simple envelope without any of the advertised pins. Flashing it is a bit tricky because of the increased memory but howto is available on instructables. The quality of the soldering at the antenna connector is much better than on the pictures above (but a resistor change is probably needed to use it). The board has the same size and pinout as the D1 Mini but the reset button and the USB connector are soldered on the other side. There are no parts on the bottom layer. Mine has slight problems with the wifi. I cannot set station mode directly, first I need to set nullmode, then station mode. Might be a software issue, otherwise it works fine. Haven't been able to test the whole flash capacity yet, fsinfo shows 15398850 total size.

I'm using the Arduino IDE to program this board. I'm fairly familiar with Arduino clones, so I figured I would try this one out as my first endeavor into the ESP8266 world. Please don't let me dissuade you from trying out this board, but be aware that if you plan on using the Arduino IDE, this board is a bit too new for easy integration. The D1 and the non-Pro D1 mini are a bit easier. The ESP8266 project has not folded in the changes to support this board yet, but I found a fork of the project that does. I think someone experienced with other ESP8266 modules would have very little problem transitioning to the D1 Mini Pro. I plan to use mine to run from a solar panel/battery combination to monitor the weather and weight of some beehives I will be installing.

I have several of these, they are GREAT!!!!! I picked this up as I have several antennas and was hoping ot make this one longer range. Very nice IOT controller, I will buy more.
