I didn't think I needed this - I just wanted it. I thought it would be interesting. It's fascinating. I got some strange looks from 'herself' when I gave the commentary, "the ceiling is 20.4, the dog is 29, the TV is 33.1, the coffee is 49..." But when I left the room I could hear the "beep beep" of various items in the lounge being tested. :) It's irresistible! I realised this afternoon that this makes an excellent non-contact thermometer for brewing, so I do have a practical use for it now. I've had to order one as a present for a friend who visited yesterday. I look forward to finding out the temperature of his kitchen sink, mother, cat, and other items.
