I like the product. It is relatively well made but the design could be improved. The long shaft that has the gradient markings on it should have a flat face where the numbers are and the thumb screw should have a flat end so when it is tightened it keeps the pencil perpendicular to the surface you are trying to mark. As it is now, if you tighten the screw lightly to avoid damaging the measurement markings, the shaft will rotate and the pencil will change position. Not good. If you tighten the thumbscrew down hard you will damage the markings. Not good either. Still, with careful use this is a neat addition to the tool box. It would be nicer if it came with a hardened metal scribe that could be put in place of the pencil for marking metals like copper, brass or aluminum.
